Scope and Contents This collection includes seven letters from members of Alan Cloe's family, beginning in 1858 and concluding with a letter written in 1945. The first letter from John Frazier in Dublin, Indiana, was to his children and grandchildren, and was addressed to Joseph Hussey in Carmel, Indiana. He wrote: "we are getting very fearful of bank notes as banks are breaking." John Hussey wrote four letters during his Civil War service, in 1861 and 1862, from Kentucky. Alas Evans recommendation letter

Scope and Contents This collection contains a recommendation letter for Alas Evans dated September 24, 1849. The letter states that Evans was a "young man of color" of good moral character and it certified that he was a "free man" who intended to travel to the western states. The letter is signed by Elisha Coffin and 21 other citizens of Randolph County, North Carolina.

Scope and Contents This collection contains papers that relate to Albert Allen's service in the 55th and 133rd regiments of the Indiana Volunteer Infantry Regiment during the U.S. Civil War ranging from 1864 to 1913, including a discharge certificate (1864), a handwritten testimony of Allen's discharge, and three pension documents from 1912 to 1913.
